Pets

I drove out here the first week of December, 1998.

I didn't make any reservations and the only problem I had were motels who did not allow pets. Motel 6 allows one pet. They may allow two, but I was too tired to deal with them. I stayed at a nice Days Inn in Santa Rosa, New Mexico and I just paid a $6.00 pet fee. There was also a "quaint" original Route 66 motel in Seligman, Arizona that was kinda cool. The owners have a cat. There is a diner there, also. Very, very nice people. And don't forget this info is from 1998.

Side Trips

When I was in Santa Rosa, NM, I discovered that Billy the Kid's grave site was just south in Ft. Sumter. After driving around this teeny town, I finally found the right road. Next to the grave site is a "museum/gift shop" which opened at 10:00 a.m. I was there at 8:00 a.m. That would have been fun.

There is also a meteorite crater on I-40 and also the Petrified Forest. I didn't make it to either one of these since it was closing time for the crater and I was not too excited about the Petrified Forest. Now I wish I had stopped!

So, when you are driving, take your time and enjoy the sights.
